Willam H. Oliver

William Oliver is a Cum Laude graduate from William Paterson College where he received a BS in Public Safety Administration and an MA in Communication Arts. He also attended the John Jay College of Criminal Justice where he completed the Advanced Criminal Investigation Course in 1991 and the Security Management Course in 1995.

He joined the East Orange Police Department in 1965 where he founded the East Orange Police Athletic League and became its first director in 1976. Mr. Oliver was promoted to the rank of sergeant in 1988 and subsequently resigned from the department in 1993 to accept a position with the Essex County Prosecutor’s Office. Mr. Oliver retired from the Prosecutor’s Office as a Deputy Chief in 1998.

In 1999 Mr. Oliver returned to the City of East Orange where he accepted the position of Director of the Municipal Court. During this time he also taught Introduction to Criminal Justice at Essex County College as an Adjunct Professor. In 2001 he joined the Passaic County Prosecutor’s Office as the Community Justice Coordinator where he completed his law enforcement career in 2012.

Mr. Oliver has a long history in volunteerism. He was a member of the United States Youth Games Executive Board as well as Coordinator of the East Orange Youth Games Program from 1976 – 1994. He founded the Mid – Atlantic Youth Sports and Education Expo (MAYSEE) and was responsible for bringing the Russian National Junior Touring Basketball Team to New Jersey in 1978 to play the New Jersey High School All Stars at Seton Hall University.

Mr. Oliver served in the US Army from 1961 – 1964 receiving an honorable discharge. He is a member of numerous organizations among them being the National Organization of Black Law Enforcement Executives (NOBLE), Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc. and Jephthah Lodge #56 Free and Accepted Masons, Prince Hall Affiliated. Mr. Oliver is also a long standing member of Sardonias Consistory #41, Pilgrim #10 Royal Arch Masons as well as Golconda Temple #24 AEAONMS.

During his tenure in the consistory Mr. Oliver has been supportive of all of it’s activities and is presently a member of the Sardonias Consistory #41 100 Year Anniversary Celebration Committee. His Masonic journey has afforded him the opportunity to elevate from the position of Senior Deacon, Junior Warden, Senior Warden, Worshipful Master, Past Master and presently Right Worshipful Grand Lodge Officer.
